I was 18 years old and:

When was the first time you really felt like a grown up (if ever)?

I was always a homebody and my mom always told us to be in the house by dark when we were little. One thing you never wanted to hear is her calling your name ever or you were in big trouble. When we got older she got more lenient and we could stay out a little later like 9 or 9:30 unless we were going to church or something then there was no time limit cause church was like a marathon. This one Wednesday night I had just turned 18 in September I was feeling so big and grownup like I could do anything I wanted to I had met this man who was pursuing me really hard I invited him to church and he came my naïve behind thinking he is really into me this lying 35 claiming he is 22 then 28 years old man had my 17 then 18 years old nose wide open. I got out of church and me being all grown now was going to walk home with him at night it was a great walk even if it cast me my senior activities due to the child that came from me being so damn grown. You live and you learn.

Becoming a social activist for the well-being of small children

What’s something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail.

I would start a nonprofit for the well-being of small children five and under to teach them how to learn adapt and grow in an environment that is not geared toward helping them succeed in life but is more geared toward showing them how to grow up too fast and navigate the world as adults before they are even able to speak I would create programs that would help them utilize their small developing adventurous imaginations so that they are able to still be children but also be the great minds of the future without having a bunch of responsibility and a bunch of unnecessary attitude around them they would have different approaches to education and learning as well as different approaches to growth and development with a myriad of developmental bases of learning where it’s fun but also Educational with different kinds of motivational people in their environment who also have a heart for children and I would advocate for them on every level whether it’s food games education athletics or just as simple as communication between children and parents activism is more than just marching and talking it is also real life action and that is what I would do if I knew I would not fail.

Speaking things into existence watching them happen and enjoying the resistance

What is your favorite hobby or pastime?

I have always been a dream or a person that likes to write and a person who likes to think and then I became a person who likes to speak so the things that I would write down I started seeing them aloud and watching them happen around me. I would always see things like a person who didn’t agree with what I saw or what I had said say it’s not because of what I said that this thing happened but I knew that it was because of what I said that it came about because of the sequence of events that took place that made it happen and it would make me chuckle because I didn’t knew that how it happened the process of what happened wouldn’t have happened like that if I hadn’t said it like that so I became a habit of mine to speak it into existence and watch it happen I’ve always been an optimist and I enjoy being an optimist because things always work out in my favor even when it doesn’t look like it. There’s always room for a win and since I’m a winner I always win in the end so my hobby is winning and writing about what I won. Whether that is weight loss Money understanding or peace of mind there are always little wins in everything.

The strength in numbers

What aspects of your cultural heritage are you most proud of or interested in?

The aspects of my cultural heritage that I am most proud of is how we come together when something needs to be done, and we put our strength in our numbers and accomplish the goal that we are seeking out to accomplish. How we manage to put our differences aside and really focus on, the goal at hand to make whatever is the issue at hand to go away even if we all go our separate ways after that, we will stand together on that issue to make it a top priority to get it accomplished no matter how long it takes no matter how much it may Keep us from doing something else at that moment it is the most important thing that needs to be accomplished, and we will do any and everything to accomplish it until it is done for example, in Alabama when the man was being attacked everyone stopped what they were doing at that moment to go and Protect him. It didn’t matter what was happening around him or them. They stopped another example when they made Rosa parks get off the bus and was disrespectful to her. We stopped riding the bus and it took over a year, but we persisted to make it happen, so that they would give us equal rights to ride the bus freely and fairly another example is when we want it to be able to vote we stopped, allowing them to treat us any other kind of way, and we’ve been together to accomplish, making it a nationwide goal to not work with anything they have going on to make it happen every time when it’s something that we all want we will stand together to make it happen that is something that I love about my culture. We still are that way just in a different way now, and I appreciate that inner strength that we have to do that in order to accomplish the goal of having us matter things like that or what keeps us moving forward And all of us working together we still have a long way to go, but I do appreciate that about my culture, even though it takes an immense strength and something major to happen for us to do that the fact that we will do it I love it about us And I appreciate my culture for it

It’s not exactly mine, but

Write about your most epic baking or cooking fail.

I love to cook one of my favorite things to make at holiday time is macaroni and cheese made from scratch. I made some macaroni and cheese for my husband to show him that I knew how to make it and instead of him, just eating it before the festivities start it Around Thanksgiving he decided he was going to turn my masterpiece into one of his resounding concoctions and add it get this some marshmallows to my macaroni and cheese. I was disgusted by it and did not eat any of it. It did not turn out right it reminded me of a kid who is trying to do a experimental product in the kitchen like making, a peanut butter and pickle sandwich or a honey and mustard, peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It did not turn out well at all. After that point, I decided I would not cook for him ever again he complained and complained that I was not doing my womanly duty for him after that, I didn’t care because I felt as if he did not appreciate the things that I was doing for him And my kids were grown and gone and I did not have a reason to be slaving in the kitchen for anyone when I could just eat out or throw something quick together but I now have started trying to get back in the habit of doing cooking for a better purpose not Jess Because I want to eat anyway that is my experience with cooking for a better purpose and my purpose for cooking. That was an epic fail.

Soulfood, Mexican food, Thai food, Italian food, Seafood

What are your favorite types of foods?

I like soul food, because I like the way we put an immense amount of flavor and the way we cook our food as Black people from around the world. I enjoy Hispanic tradition of food. Whether is Americanized or farming, Mexican countries because it has different flavors and it is Different in the way they put their ingredients with it their history and their family secrets in it. I love Thai food because of the way they put fruit to enhance the flavor in their food to make it taste flavorful and have a spice element with a sweetness to it also And I love Italian food because of the authenticity in it with the way they do their noodles, their spaghetti‘s, and most of their pastas whether it’s from scratch or processed it always has a genuine flavor that you can’t only say it came from an Italian restaurant or an Italian country There are several foods that I like, but these are by far my favorites.

The ones who inspired my life the most growing up from stories

Name the professional athletes you respect the most and why.

The athletes that I drew to marveled by and loved to watch and hear about where Flo Jo Jackie Robinson Muhammad Ali the marvelous Marvin Hagler Joe Louis Jesse Owens you couldn’t get past these names in the different sports because they were the ones who made all the headlines they were so important and so good at what they did that no matter what they were involved in you knew that they were the best and you wanted to be the next one just like them I marveled at them and wanted to be just like them or even better I respected them never knew how hard it was for them until I got older thought they had the best lives not realizing what struggle it was to be them during those times so I have the upmost respect and love for them knowing that not only did they have the fight just to do what they loved but they also persevered made it happen so that someone like me could come forward and do it too so I have much respect for each and everyone of them still do to this day.

Stupid

If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?

I have several conversations with a certain person during the day and as I am talking to this person, I am always saying in my mind. In my thoughts when I walk away this person is so stupid. Why do they think like this? That was stupid this is stupid. Why do they act so stupid? Why is there behavior so stupid Why do I put up with this stupid Ness of this person every other word out of my mouth when dealing with this person is always the word stupid coming out of my mouth or a certain instances coming out of my mouth about this person makes me think that I am becoming stupid from dealing with them and I keep thinking that you are a product of the company that you keep so I always try to rephrase my thoughts and cautioned myself to put a cap on what I’m about to say or do so that I do not let that word stupid come out of my mouth because I know the more that I said the more I am bringing that back into my life so that is the one word there are others, but that is the main word that I really am working on getting rid of out of my thoughts out of my mouth and out of my heart when it comes to things that happen during my daily routine.

Yes I have more than one

Have you ever had surgery? What for?

More than 3

The first surgery I had was minor surgery as a child. I walked past a shard of glass from a large, broken picture window. I sliced my leg along my calf leg on the left side. I had to be rushed to the hospital. I also had hand surgery from letting a fire cracker blow up in my hand. Another minor surgery where stitches were needed. This is before the time of numbing the area so I had to get several stitches and the held down in order to stay still. My next surgery, was when I had been in labor for two days. My son was being very stubborn and not wanting to get in the right position so my labor was being prolong until the core began to wrap around his neck from all of his turning so I ended up having to have a C-section on an emergency my next surgery after that was a planned surgery my daughter then a third C-section after that, I had to have a thyroidectomy because my thyroid was not functioning correctly, and had created a mass, the size of a potato in my throat (a goiter) and another mass the size of a football in my chest, which was causing me to not be able to breathe correctly and have fainting spells often so I had to have open chest surgery and throat surgery. After that one, I had a total hysterectomy because of problems with my uterus and anemia and bleeding problems. My body has been through quite a bit, but I would say it has all been worth it.

God is life

How important is spirituality in your life?

Spirituality is very important to me because God is life.

God has made my life worthwhile and worth living things haven’t always been easy but with him by my side, I’ve been able to get through a lot and not go over the deep end. I’ve had some very traumatic events in my life. I didn’t know what was coming next or what to do, but my faith and my belief kept me going. There’s so much more I could say, but I want him with this God is everything..
